Shia Rights Watch issued a statement marking the approaching month of Muharram, calling on all Islamic and non-Islamic governments to secure the appropriate atmospheres for the commemoration of Ashura and the Husseini rituals during the holy month.
The organization’s statement read, “The Islamic nation receives the new Hijri year with exceptional circumstances that require concerted and unified efforts to secure the upcoming Ashura rituals, similar to what preceded in previous years, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Islamic and foreign countries realize that the sacred month of Muharram, especially the first ten days, has special rituals that Shia Muslims regularly establish every year, especially as it is considered one of the most sacred rituals and the most interactive among the believers.
The statement added, “The harsh conditions that have passed on the Shia Muslims throughout history have not stopped them from establishing these rituals and commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of the Prophet, peace be upon him, considering that its revival is an obligation on every Muslim man and woman.”
The organization called on all Islamic and non-Islamic governments to secure the appropriate atmospheres to commemorate the days of Ashura and the Husseini rituals during the month of Muharram, and to provide all health and safety requirements for the participants of its revival, calling at the same time all brothers and sisters who will participate in those rituals to adhere to the preventive health and safety regulations.
