Millions of children have been severely affected by the quakes which hit the country earlier this year.
Around 2.5 million children in Turkey and 3.7 million children in Syria have been desperately trying and struggling to rebuild their lives.
UNICEF has called on the international community to prioritise a child-focused early recovery and to ensure that children’s needs are met within funding allocation. “In the aftermath of the earthquakes, children in both countries have experienced unimaginable loss and grief,”.
“The earthquakes struck areas where many families were already incredibly vulnerable. Children have lost family and loved ones, and seen their homes, schools and communities devastated and their entire lives turned upside down.” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, who visited both countries just weeks after the initial earthquakes.
According to relief organisations the impact of the earthquake will be felt for months and years to come.
