The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, ordered the construction of a new 120-km-long motorway connecting Baghdad to the holy city of Karbala.
The project will facilitate the movement of pilgrims, especially millions of pilgrims during Arba’een of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
Karbala Governor, Nasif al-Khatabi, announced the news, adding that the Prime Minister issued this order yesterday after meeting of the officials of concerned governorates.
He further noted that the Prime Minister emphasized the need for the immediate implementation of this project.
According to the Governor of Karbala, the development of religious tourism is one of the main goals of the constructing this new road.
