Social, religious plight of Uyghurs in China deteriorates despite growing international concern

International pressure on Chinese authorities has increased as the plight of Uyghur Muslims in China’s Xinjiang province deepens with ever-increasing social-political constraints imposed on this Muslim ethnicity.

The European Union, Amnesty International, and non-governmental organizations defending human and Muslim rights have repeatedly published documented reports on widespread violations of the rights of Uyghur Muslims in China.

However, the Chinese government has always denied such accusations, preventing representatives of the European Union and human rights organizations from visiting the region.

Plots to sterilize and reduce the Muslim population, creating obstacles to keep Muslims from acts of worship and congregational Prayers, imprisonment and detention of Uyghur activists are examples of the many unrelenting oppressions this community has faced over years.

Uyghurs are people of Turkic origin living in China’s Xinjiang province, which was formerly known as East Turkestan.

Uyghur ethnic groups also reside in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, speaking a language full of Turkish and Persian words.
