Imam Ali Holy Shrine reveals new progress on extension project of holy courtyard
The General Secretariat of Imam Ali Holy Shrine has revealed new progress in its expansion project of the holy courtyard, to add more space to serve pilgrims during massive pilgrimages to Holy Najaf.
Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Ibrahimi, a member of the board of directors at the Imam Ali Holy Shrine, said that, “Imam Ali’s Holy Shrine has a special historical and architectural importance, as it is the oldest shrine amongst the shrines of the infallibles in Iraq.”
Al-Ibrahimi added that, “The General Secretariat attempt to preserve and maintain the architectural sites and the historical and religious heritage around the holy courtyard of Imam Ali Holy Shrine in the old city.”
Eng. Alaa Doosh, a member of the board of directors, said that, “30 days since the project have begun after lengthy studies in cooperation with professionals from Iraq and other countries. The studies focused on identifying the movement of pilgrims and the nature of the old city and its archeological sites.”
Doosan added that, “The project is based on an area of 6000 m2, located on the main entrance gates of the Holy Shrine, namely Al-Qibla gate, Al-Sa’a gate and Al-Tusi gate.”
