Smethwick-based Abrahamic Foundation sends Muslim prisoners dates during Ramadan
The Abrahamic Foundation, based in Smethwick, has been running the project for five years now, their major concern and the reason why they started this initiative was because some Muslims in prison would go without breaking their fasts with dates, which is the traditional way to break your fast, the Birmingham Live reported.
The organisation supplies a category A prison with 2kg of dates for each fasting prisoner and small boxes of typical Asian sweets for both Eid festivals.
Trustee Imam Nasir Akhtar admits there was backlash to the controversial idea at first, but support has increased with supermarkets supplying dates and funds for the project.
