Antonio Guterres says fasting showed him ‘true face of Islam’

UN Secretary-General described his experience of joining fasting Muslims during Ramadan as a representation of “the true face of Islam”, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Guterres said as part of his comments on his annual visit to refugee camps, where he fasted in solidarity, “When I became Secretary-General, I thought that this tradition should be maintained.”

The UN chief further told of Ramadan as a great opportunity for the world to unite for peace.
