Bahrain: Rights Groups confirm over 14 thousand arbitrary arrests since 2011

Human rights organizations have confirmed that many political rights are missing in Bahrain, in addition to widespread violations that undermine political and human rights activities, such as banning political gatherings, pursuing political activists, and political ostracism.

In a report published under the title “The Restricted Political Environment in Bahrain”, the organizations shed light on the political and human rights situation in Bahrain, with the approach of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meetings, scheduled to be held from 11-15 this month in Manama.

The report stressed that security campaigns and violations affected 15 former MPs, who were targeted by the authorities in Bahrain because of attitues related to freedom of expression.

The report indicated that the number of people who have been subjected to arbitrary arrests since 2011 has exceeded 14,000 citizens, while the comprehensive ban on peaceful assembly has been in effect for 1,513 days.
