‘World Day of Social Justice’ observed to raise voice against social injustice
The ‘World Day of Social Justice’ was observed yesterday February 20. The main goal of this day is to raise a voice against social injustice and to bring together diverse communities around the world in an effort to eradicate poverty, religious discrimination and illiteracy, and create a society that is socially integrated.
The day is an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and governments to reflect on the progress made towards achieving social justice, as well as identify areas where more work is needed.
“We must develop fairer, more balanced policies that generate the political buy-in to drive change,” UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said, ADDING, ““What is also needed is a deeper social dialogue with actors across the real economy.”
About 290 million youth globally are not in education, employment, or training, while two billion people work in the informal economy, a per UN reports.
Unstable jobs and income, unhealthy and unsafe working conditions and no social protection led to a disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these workers that saw their earnings drop by 60 per cent in 2020.
