Shia Rights Watch condemns Taliban’s attack on journalists in Afghanistan

The International ‘Shia Rights Watch’ organization expressed its strong condemnation over the oppressive practices of Taliban authorities against journalists, calling on international and regional parties to put pressure on the movement to abide by the promises it made.

In a statement received by the Shia Waves Agency, the organization said: “We received with great concern the news that, on Tuesday, February 14, about 10 armed Taliban members raided the headquarters of the privately owned ‘Tamadon TV’ in Kabul, beat several staff members, and held them for 30 minutes.”

Tamadon TV is predominantly owned and operated by members of the Hazara ethnic minority, and covers political and current affairs as well as Shia religious programming.

Hazara people have faced persecution and escalated violence since the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021
