Amid sorrow and weeping of their owners, the Indian authorities demolished Muslim homes, in the Capital, New Delhi, based on claims that they are built illegally.
According to Indian news outlets, the demolition campaign was carried out, last Wednesday, by the Committee of Development as a part of its campaign on preventing trespassing on banks of Yamuna River southeast of New Delhi.
The operation of demolition was launched based on directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), a statutory body to deal with the cases related to environmental issues.
Legally, however, the move has been justified on the grounds of unauthorised construction – the police claim they are targeting illegal encroachments of people squatting on public land.
Within the demolition campaign, a footage went viral showed tens of the members of the extreme right-wing Hindu organizations, Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, vandalizing and sabotaging a mosque in Uttar Pradesh.
