Morocco: Shia man sentenced to one year for calling his family to embrace Shia belief

Today, Sunday, Moroccan media reported that a follower of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) was sentenced to prison in the city of Beni Mellal, Morocco, because of his call for his family to embrace the true Shia belief.

The Moroccan media revealed the details of the case, which was followed up by (Shia Waves Agency), where the Shia man’s wife complained that her husband “shoke her faith and the faith of her children” and claimed that “he forced her to embrace the Shia belief.”

It added, “The jury ruled that the accused be convicted for what was attributed to him, and sentenced him to one year in prison, and a fine of (5,000 dirhams), in addition to compensating his family, the wife, three children, and her sister, with an amount of (2,000 dirhams) for each of them.”

Other sources talked about this case and its circumstances, as they confirmed that “declaring conversion to Shia belief has become a charge against anyone who declares his conversion.”

The sources indicated that “this case is not the first, as several prison sentences have already been imposed on people who are being convicted of cases of spreading Shiism in Morocco.”
