In the midst of an official presence represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Holy Province of Karbala, and a large gathering of specialists, citizens, and various media officials, the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) inaugurated yesterday, Wednesday, a new scientific achievement and an edifice specialized in medical sciences, represented by the Al-Sibtayn International University for Medical Sciences, in Karbala.
The Secretary-General of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Al-Abaiji, said at the opening ceremony, “The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine is working to provide the best services to the community and pilgrims, and to expand its scope of work and responsibilities to serve all citizens.”
Al-Abaiji added, “The Holy Shrine has begun to establish large and advanced scientific institutions, and provide educational opportunities for our students, especially the outstanding ones. Therefore, it has become imperative for the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, from a religious, legal and humanitarian position, to move to build large scientific and medical institutions to achieve the aspirations and hopes of our students from all over Iraq.”
In an interview with the International Media Center, the head of the Engineering Projects Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), Eng. Hussein Redha Mahdi, said, “This university is the first international university in Iraq, built in the city center on an area of 70,000 square meters, and includes three colleges: the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing and Midwifery, and the College of Rehabilitation.”
Mahdi added, “The importance of this scientific edifice lies in the service of Iraqi students. Usually, many students go outside Iraq for the purpose of studying medicine, for various reasons, so the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has always supported the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education by establishing a group of universities, including the Al-Sibtayn University for Medical Sciences, which opened today.”
