UN condemns continued violations against Yemeni civilians
The United Nations Human Rights Council condemned the continued violations against Yemeni civilians, stressing that they fall on all parties to the conflict, led by the Saudi-led coalition.
The findings of the UN Group of Experts’ investigations revealed the violations represented by air strikes and bombing, non-compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law, restrictions on humanitarian relief, as well as obstacles to accessing food and health care, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearance.
In its fourth report to the Human Rights Council, the Group of Experts reviewed its findings regarding the serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law committed by the parties to the conflict in Yemen.
The report was titled “Forgotten Nation: A Call to Humanity to End Yemen’s Suffering”, and stressed that responsibility for violations rests with all parties to the conflict.
According to the Group of Experts, some of the violations identified may amount to international crimes, and the relatively meager developments in the area of accountability were in no way appropriate or sufficient to end the “pandemic of impunity” as previously described by the Group of Experts.
