Afghanistan’s President decides to arm the citizens to confront the Taliban terrorist movement
Afghanistan has decided to arm its citizens in light of a massive attack by the Taliban terrorist group across the country, the presidential office said.
President Ashraf Ghani met with prominent Afghan leaders to discuss the current situation in the country, Afghan radio, Ariana News, reported.
In a statement, the office said, “A decision was issued at this meeting on supporting the security forces, preserving the republic, cohesion, strengthening and preparing the popular uprisings against enemy attacks.”
The decision comes in the wake of the Taliban’s seizure of several provincial capitals, including Zaranj in Nimroz district and Sheberghan in Jawzjan district, while Kabul denied the militants’ advance.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that the Afghan government has lost control of the situation in the country, and that the movement will soon capture Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province.
