Canada allocates $300,000 to combat Islamophobia and discrimination in schools

Authorities in the Canadian province of Ontario have announced $300,000 grants to two Muslim organizations in an effort to combat Islamophobia in the province’s schools.
The Canadian province of Ontario has agreed to fund training programs to help combat Islamophobia.
Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce said $225,000 will be allocated to the Muslim Association of Canada to create digital resources for teachers, students and parents to raise awareness about Islamophobia.
He added that the rest of the funding will go to the National Council of Canadian Muslims to help newcomer Muslims navigate their new country and to help these new students prepare for school in the fall.
The Minister of Education indicated that it is unacceptable for Muslim students to face discrimination in schools.
This announcement comes after four members of a Muslim family were killed and a fifth, a 9-year-old boy, was injured in a “deliberate” attack carried out by a young man who ran over them with his pickup truck in London, Ontario.
The London attack sparked a long national debate about the racism faced by Muslims in Canada and calls for action to combat Islamophobia.
