The assassination of a prominent cleric in Afghanistan

An Afghan official announced the killing of a prominent pro-government religious leader, in an attack carried out by unknown assailants in Parwan state, in the center of the country.
District Governor Ahmed Omar said that Maulvi Syed Saifullah, head of the Council of Scholars of Sayed Khalil District in Parwan State, was shot dead by unknown persons, in front of a government school.
He added that no party has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
