12 people killed in an explosion inside a Shia mosque in Kabul
Twelve people were killed in an explosion inside a Shia mosque in a district in the north of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Friday.
A spokesman for Kabul police, Firdaus Varamarz, said that an explosion inside a Shia mosque in a northern Kabul district killed 12 worshipers and wounded more than 20 others.
He added that explosives had been placed inside the mosque in advance.
A picture circulating on social media showed three bodies lying on the floor of the mosque, and minor material damage.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion, and Kabul police said they had opened an investigation into the accident.
