Afghan officials said today, Sunday, that the number of martyrs in the explosion that targeted the Syed al-Shuhada School for girls in the Afghan capital, Kabul, has risen to 58, while medical personnel are making strenuous efforts to provide medical care to the other 150 wounded.
The explosion, which occurred on Saturday evening, rocked the Dasht Barji neighborhood, which is mainly inhabited by Shias, in Kabul.
A witness said that all of the victims, except for seven or eight people, were students who were returning to their homes after school.
Footage broadcasted by Tolo News TV showed chaotic scenes outside the school of books and school bags strewn across a bloodstained road, as residents tried to help the victims.
A witness said that workers at a nearby hospital were rushing to transport the wounded students to the hospital, while frightened parents were searching for their sons and daughters.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani accused the Taliban terrorist movement of carrying out the attack.
