Shia Scholars Council condemns the assassination of journalist in northwest Pakistan
The deputy head of the Shia Scholars Council in Pakistan, Allama Muhammad Ramadan Touqeer, strongly condemned the shooting of a journalist in front of his home in Dera Ismail Khan in the northwest of the country.
According to press reports, Touqeer called on the government to take necessary measures to protect journalists, calling for an immediate investigation into the tragic accident of activist journalist Qais Javed, and for the killers to be brought to justice and punished.
Touqeer added that gunmen who were riding a motorcycle opened fire on journalist Qais Javid near his home, after midnight last night, and managed to flee from the scene, indicating that Javed was hit by several bullets that led to his death.
It is worth noting that about 70 journalists have been killed in the country during the past two decades, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
