Former Senegalese minister and ambassador, Amadou Tejan Won, announced his abandonment of the French Legion of Honor and placing it at the disposal of the French embassy in Dakar, due to France’s insult to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny.
In a letter sent to French President Emmanuel Macron, the former Minister of Culture said, “It is not an honor to share the same medal with Samuel Bate (the teacher who published insulting pictures of the Prophet), for deep and sacred reasons,” accusing Macron of seeking to turn reckless ones into heroes.
Tejan Won, who also served as his country’s ambassador to Canada, explained that when he was awarded the medal, he was proud of it and had the honor to join the prestigious circle of those whom France deservedly celebrates despite the vicissitudes of history.
He continued, explaining that “I have always considered this a symbol of brotherhood, freedom to celebrate, and equality in victory.”
Amadou Tejan asserted that “defending the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, is preceded by a temporary advantage for vanity, for I am a Muslim, and I say that that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
Last October, France witnessed the publication of cartoons insulting to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, on the facades of buildings, and French President Emmanuel Macron considered them freedom of expression.
