French academic: Hostility to religious values is an intellectual and political mistake

French writer and academic William Marx said on Tuesday that the hostility to religious values is an intellectual and political mistake.
He added, in an article in Le Monde newspaper, that France is witnessing an increase in the motives for launching a symbolic war against Islam.
He explained, “Dealing with the display of the simplest forms of religious affiliation as a threat to the republic leads to obliterating the cultural and emotional richness of religions, and exposes us to extremism.”
The French academic mentioned the boycott of his country’s products in many countries of the Islamic world, after the publication of cartoons insulting to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny.
He added, commenting on the publication of the cartoons, “Hostility to religious values is an intellectual and political mistake.”
France witnessed the publication of cartoons insulting to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, on the facades of buildings, and President Emmanuel Macron considered it a “freedom of expression”, sparking a wave of anger among Muslims around the world.
