Samarra foiled an effort by ISIS terrorist group to wage an attack on one of the holiest sites
Iraqi forces in the city of Samarra foiled an effort by ISIS terrorist group to wage an attack on one of the holiest sites of Shia Muslims.
A group of the so-called the Islamic State Takfiri group tried to launch a major attack using Grad missiles on the holy city.
The city, which is nearly 120 kilometers north of Baghdad, is home to the holy shrines of two Shia Imams, Ali al-Hadi and Hassan al-Askari, peace be upon them, and a major pilgrimage site visited by tens of millions of Muslims annually despite the tense security situation in the area.
Reports said that Iraqi forces, depending on intelligence information and in collaboration with the Iraqi aviation, managed to kill the Takfiri terrorists and destroy their hideouts.
