The Engineering Projects Department of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein has announced the opening of the first stage of al-Hujjah Basement Project before Arbaeen Pilgrimage in order to accommodate the largest number of pilgrims pouring into the holy shrine.
Engineer Mahdi Ramadan stated, “Our engineering and technical cadres are continuing their work on the al-Hujjah Basement Project and have accomplished the first stage which includes the excavation work, erection of pillars around the site, removing the old marble and installing secant piles 12 metres deep, to prevent the collapse of the soil and preserve the old structure of the holy shrine as it is of great historical, cultural and Islamic significance.”
“The total area of the project is 4000 m2 and will be equipped with electric escalators to facilitate the flow of the pilgrims, as well as cooling, fire alarm and audio systems.”
It is hoped that the period of completion will be before the next Arbaeen Pilgrimage.
