The Israeli military launched airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport in Yemen on Tuesday, amid escalating tensions with the Houthi movement. Witnesses reported four strikes in the capital, while airport sources said the attacks targeted three civilian aircraft, the departures hall, the runway, and a nearby military air base.
Israel had issued warnings for civilians to evacuate the area around the airport, a day after strikes on Hodeidah killed four people and injured 39, according to Houthi authorities.
The escalation follows a Houthi missile landing near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday, prompting Israel to vow retaliation. In response, the Houthis declared a “comprehensive” aerial blockade on Israel, vowing to continue targeting its airports.
The Houthis have carried out missile and drone attacks on Israel and Red Sea shipping since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. There were no immediate reports of casualties from Tuesday’s strikes.
