Israel launched airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen late Monday, a day after a ballistic missile fired by the group struck Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said 20 fighter jets targeted Houthi infrastructure in and around Hodeidah, including a cement factory and the city’s port, citing their alleged use in weapons transfers and tunnel construction.
The Houthi-run Health Ministry reported at least one death and 35 injuries following the strikes. Houthi media confirmed multiple hits on the Hodeidah port and the cement factory. The missile strike on Israel’s main airport marked a significant escalation, with the Houthis threatening to impose an “air blockade” on Israel by targeting airports.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed strong retaliation, calling the strikes part of ongoing efforts coordinated with the U.S. Despite international efforts, Houthi attacks on Israel and U.S. forces in the Red Sea continue, raising regional security concerns.
