UK court upholds jail sentence for British anti-Islam activist ‘Tommy Robinson’

British anti-Islam activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson, has lost his appeal against an 18-month prison sentence for contempt of court, news reports said. The Court of Appeal in London upheld the ruling on Wednesday, finding the original judge’s legal reasoning and sentencing “meticulous.”

Robinson was jailed in October after breaching a court injunction by repeating false allegations about a Syrian refugee, who had previously won a libel case against him. The case stemmed from comments made in online interviews and a documentary titled Silenced, which was widely viewed and shown publicly in Trafalgar Square.

Last month, Robinson was also denied a legal challenge against being held in segregation at Woodhill Prison. He has claimed support from US billionaire Elon Musk, though Musk has not confirmed involvement. Robinson has been accused by some of contributing to civil unrest in July.
