Iraq to launch electronic entry visas for select nations to reduce airport congestion

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that starting March 1, 2025, travelers from certain countries will no longer receive visas on arrival at Baghdad International Airport, local news outlets reported.

Nationals from the permanent UN Security Council members, European Union countries, as well as Australia, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Switzerland, and New Zealand will need to apply for electronic entry visas through an online portal.

The ministry stated that this move is intended to reduce airport congestion, expedite customs procedures, and strengthen control over foreign entries by enabling accurate tracking of travelers. Airlines have been advised to ensure that passengers secure their electronic visas before arrival to avoid any complications.
