The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has banned the broadcast of the TV show “Muawiyah” on MBC Iraq TV channel. The decision, announced on Saturday, is based on Legislative Order 65 of 2004 and aims to ensure that media content aligns with Iraq’s national and professional standards.
According to a statement issued by the CMC, airing controversial historical content could incite sectarian debates, jeopardizing societal peace—an issue of particular concern during Ramadan.
The commission urged all media outlets to adhere to professional standards and avoid content that might lead to sedition or sectarian incitement.
An official letter was sent to MBC Iraq’s management, with the CMC warning that legal measures would be taken against any violations of the current media regulations.
