Marriage rates on decline worldwide, global reports reveal

In many countries, marriage rates have been declining for decades and are currently at their lowest point in recorded history. However, this trend is not universal and varies based on the country.
In Europe, the highest number of marriages in 2018 were Cyprus, Romania, Lithuania and Latvia, a per eurostat 2021 report. In contrast, the lowest marriage rates were reported in Luxembourg, Italy and Portugal.
However, in the MENA region statistics indicate that West Bank and Gaza had the highest marriage rate in the world as of 2018, followed by Fiji, Egypt and Bahamas. By contrast, Qatar, French Guiana, and Peru had the lowest marriage rates worldwide in that same year.
In a 2021 survey by the Institute for Family Studies, findings revealed that money was not the main reason some Americans remain single. Instead, participants mentioned lack of commitment and not finding the right person as key reasons for not marrying.
Experts have underscored the crucial role social media platforms play in marriages and divorces around the world. According to The Washington Post, Facebook is linked with divorce and cited in approximately one-third of all divorce cases.
