Security unrest in MENA severely impacts regional and global trade

Ongoing wars, military conflicts, and political turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have strongly impacted food security and the economic situation in the region and the world.

Reports indicate that escalating hostilities in Yemen and Sudan have disrupted transportation routes, damaged infrastructure, and impeded logistical efforts, leading to reduced exports.

In Yemen, repeated attacks on trade ships have prompted many shipping companies to reroute to avoid the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, causing delays and extra costs and resulting in revenue declines.

In a related context, the recent war on Lebanon and the fall of the Syrian regime have also worsened the economic and commercial situation in these countries and the entire region, while Jordan is now struggling with refugee burdens following the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Amid security and political uncertainty in MENA, major economies and global organizations have begun prioritizing energy security by adopting new global economic policies.
