Nigeria to repatriate thousands of refugees and prepare for U.S. deportees

The Nigerian government is set to repatriate over 100,000 Nigerian refugees currently in countries such as Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Authorities have outlined plans to support their reintegration rather than leaving them stranded.

Additionally, the government is preparing to receive Nigerians expected to be deported from the United States following recent policy changes. During a media briefing in Abuja, Director General Tijjani Aliyu stated that measures are being put in place to resettle those affected.

Aliyu emphasized that Nigeria will use its position as chair of the Rabat Process, a key Euro-African dialogue on migration, to advocate for fairer global immigration policies. Nigeria formally assumed this leadership role at a recent meeting in Porto, Portugal, strengthening its influence in international migration governance.
