Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has appointed a 24-member government led by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, replacing an interim cabinet that had been in place for over two years amid ongoing political disputes and economic collapse.
The new cabinet, the first full government since 2022, must now present a policy statement outlining its priorities before seeking a parliamentary vote of confidence.
Prime Minister Salam, a seasoned diplomat and former president of the International Court of Justice, has pledged reforms in the judiciary and the economy, as well as steps to stabilize the nation.
The new government also plans to implement UN Resolution 1701, which calls for the withdrawal of non-state armed groups from the area south of the Litani River.
