Chairlift accident leaves 10 people injured in Spain’s Pyrenees
A chairlift accident at the Astún ski resort in Spain has left 10 people injured, including two 18-year-old women in intensive care, the BBC reported late Saturday.
The incident, caused by a pulley failure that slackened a cable and caused chairs to fall, led to the closure of the resort in the Spanish Pyrenees. Around 17 people required medical attention, with some transported to hospitals by helicopter and ambulance.
Emergency services rescued dozens of people stranded on the 15m-high lift. Eyewitnesses described the event as “very scary but fast.” The resort, near the French border, remains closed as investigations into the cause continue.
