“Qur’an Recitation and Nasheed” competition held in Thailand promoting peace in the

The 6th edition of the “Recitation and Nasheed for Peace in the South” competition was inaugurated at Hat Yai University, Thailand, on January 7, 2025. The event, organized under the patronage of the Songkhla provincial government, featured prominent participation from government officials and religious leaders.

Songkhla Governor Chotinarin Kertsom emphasized during the opening ceremony that Thai society is a multicultural community that fosters respect and understanding among different religions and cultures. He highlighted the special place of Qur’anic recitation and nasheed in Islamic culture, noting that social and environmental changes have caused these traditions to fade among the younger generation.

Hat Yai University Vice President for Student Development and Public Relations, Nivat Sawasdikaw, stated that the competition aims to encourage Muslim youth in the south to actively preserve their heritage and promote peace in the region.

The competition features over 1,000 participants across various categories, including Qur’anic recitation, Tajweed, memorization, and nasheed (for both men and women). Additionally, a speech competition centered on “soft power” is also part of the program.
