Iraq’s Ground Forces Commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Muhammad Al-Muhammadi, announced ongoing operations targeting terrorist remnants in remote areas, including the Hamrin Mountains and western deserts, the Iraqi News Agency reported on Saturday.
Al-Muhammadi confirmed the successful elimination of terrorist groups in Wadi Tharthar through coordinated ground operations and airstrikes, noting that terrorists have utilized challenging terrains like Wadi al-Shay and Al-Kara for hiding, but continuous tracking and air surveillance have significantly reduced their presence.
On border security, Al-Muhammadi said Iraqi forces, supported by the Popular Mobilization Forces, have fortified defenses along the Iraq-Syria border, extending from Al-Qaim to Al-Rutba, to curb cross-border threats.
