Madrid conference urges action on Taliban’s treatment of Afghan women
An international conference in Madrid on Friday highlighted the worsening conditions for women under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, Afghan Amu news agency reported.
Organized by Women for Afghanistan, the event brought together global officials and women’s rights advocates to discuss strategies for empowering Afghan women and holding the Taliban accountable for human rights violations.
Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares Bueno, condemned the Taliban’s policies, describing the severe curtailment of women’s rights since their return to power in 2021 as unacceptable. Bueno also urged the global community to take decisive action to address the crisis and support Afghan women and girls.
Participants explored practical ways to exert pressure on the Taliban regime and enhance international efforts to protect women’s rights in Afghanistan. The conference underscored the need for unified global action to counteract the repression and ensure fundamental rights are upheld.
