Intl Union of Muslim Scholars condemns US veto, calling it complicity in Gaza genocide

The International Union of Muslim Scholars strongly criticized the US veto against a UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, labeling it as direct support for the ongoing genocide against Palestinians.

Secretary-General Ali Muhammad al-Sallabi urged the United States to reconsider its stance, accusing it of providing political cover for Israeli aggression, calling on global leaders and Muslim scholars to intensify efforts to end the violence and lift the blockade.

The union highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where an 18-year blockade has caused severe shortages of food, water, and medicine, exacerbating daily suffering.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation also condemned the U.S. veto, emphasizing its role in obstructing international peace efforts and urging Security Council reform.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed over 44,000 Palestinians, injured more than 105,000, and displaced nearly two million people, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
