In recent years, there has been a growing interest in learning Arabic in Turkey, especially after the rise of the Justice and Development Party in 2002 and Turkey’s increased engagement with Arab countries.
Government support has made Arabic widely accessible, particularly in Istanbul, where educational centers and universities have expanded Arabic language and Islamic studies programs.
Istanbul Academy, led by Mohamed Gureishta, has become a key institution, translating over 1,000 works from Turkish to Arabic since 2018, with a focus on children’s literature.
Arabic has also become an elective subject in Turkish schools, and cultural events like Arab book fairs in Istanbul have strengthened cultural ties between Turks and Arabs.
