At least 9 killed, over 2,700 injured after pager blasts in Lebanon

At least nine people, including a child, were killed and more than 2,750 injured in a cyberattack allegedly carried out by Israel on Tuesday, according to news reports and Lebanese officials.

A Hezbollah official, who requested anonymity, described the pager detonations as the group’s “most significant security breach” in almost a year of conflict with Israel.

“We hold the Israeli enemy fully accountable for this criminal act,” Hezbollah stated, vowing that Israel “will undoubtedly face consequences for this aggression.”

Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad confirmed that a child was among the fatalities caused by the pager explosions across multiple regions in Lebanon. He noted that around 200 people are in critical condition.

Most of the victims sustained injuries to their hands, while others suffered harm to their faces, abdomens, and eyes, according to Abiad.

The explosions occurred in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a known Hezbollah base, and in southern Lebanon, reports indicated.

The Israeli military, which has been engaged in exchanges of fire with Hezbollah since October, did not immediately comment on the incident.
