Tanzania hosts historic celebration to honour Quran reciters, memorizers

With more than 60,000 attendees from various parts of Africa, the city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania has hosted a historic celebration organized by the Muslim World League to honor Quran reciters and memorizers.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including Tanzanian President Samia Hassan and the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the “Tanzania International Quran Competition for Girls,” which saw participants from around the world aiming to complete the oral component required to receive an ijazah (certification) in Quran recitation with a chain of transmission linked to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family.

The ceremony also included initiatives to honor distinguished late Quran reciters from the Islamic world, chosen to commemorate their achievements and inspire young people to follow in their footsteps in mastering Quran memorization and recitation.

The celebration emphasized the importance of preserving the authenticity and integrity of Quranic recitation through an unbroken chain tracing back to the Holy Prophet, highlighting ongoing efforts to promote and perfect Quranic knowledge among Muslims, supporting the traditions of recitation and memorization within the Islamic community.
