Heavy monsoon rains kill over 400 across India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh
Heavy monsoon rains and floods have caused significant casualties in South Asia over the past two days. In southern India, 33 people have died, with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states particularly affected.
Torrential downpours have collapsed houses and disrupted transportation. Telangana authorities issued a red alert and relocated over 4,000 people to relief camps. Since June, floods and mudslides in India’s northeastern states have claimed at least 170 lives.
In Pakistan, flash floods in Balochistan have killed five children, raising the country’s monsoon-related death toll to at least 300 since July. The floods have damaged nearly 20,000 homes and blocked highways.
In Bangladesh, the death toll from floods has reached 71, with millions stranded and growing concerns over waterborne diseases. The floods, driven by continuous monsoon rains, have affected around five million people.
