Devastating floods in India and Bangladesh leave millions stranded, dozens dead

Floodwaters have swept through regions of India and Bangladesh, leaving hundreds of thousands of people stranded in northeastern India and neighboring eastern Bangladesh.

The death toll in Bangladesh, which is still dealing with the aftermath of weeks of political unrest, climbed to 13 on Friday.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief reported that approximately 4.5 million people in eastern Bangladesh have been affected by the floods.

In India’s northeastern state of Tripura, soldiers used lifeboats to rescue people on Friday after heavy rains caused floods and landslides, displacing more than 65,000 people and killing at least 23, according to authorities.

Authorities in Tripura have set up 450 relief camps to assist the affected population, with around 1.7 million people impacted and significant damage reported to infrastructure, crops, and livestock.
