Nigerian authorities have announced the death of 18 people in an armed attack that occurred on Sunday in Benue State.
The Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Justin Chaku told reporters that the attack was carried out by unknown assailants in the area, confirming that 18 people were killed in the attack, and many others were injured.
The Nigerian official added that the state government had deployed additional security forces to the area following the attack to enhance security and restore stability.
Benue State suffers from frequent armed attacks, with the last major attack occurring on July 16, resulting in the death of 12 people in the Agatu area.
Recently, Nigeria has been witnessing a surge in attacks carried out by armed groups and terrorist organizations such as “Boko Haram,” which is affiliated with “ISIS,” in various parts of the country.
