Over the weekend, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested eight individuals suspected of having ties to IS, as reported by Singaporean news channel CNA.
The arrests were made during coordinated operations across four states on Saturday and Sunday. Among those detained was a former lecturer, suspected of connections to extremist and radical ideologies, according to the news outlet.
On Monday, Malaysia’s Home Minister stated that preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspects posed threats against Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as well as other dignitaries and senior officials.
