At least 7 Shias martyred in terrorist attack on mosque in Herat, Afghanistan

At least seven people, including a child, were martyred, while others were wounded in an attack by unknown armed assailants on a Shia mosque in the Herat province in western Afghanistan.

According to local Afghan media reports, monitored by Shia Waves Agency, unidentified gunmen attacked the Imam Sahib Al-Zaman Mosque in the Andeshya area of Herat province, during the Maghrib and Isha prayers.

The attack resulted in the martyrdom of seven worshippers, including a child and the mosque’s imam, Sheikh Jawid Mulla, while nearly five others were injured. Media sources said that the attackers fled the scene after carrying out the attack.

Officials from the Taliban-affiliated Ministry of Interior have not yet provided any details about the attack, and no armed group has claimed responsibility so far. Usually, the terrorist ISIS-Khorasan branch claims responsibility for bloody attacks in Afghanistan.

According to local and international reports, this group has intensified its attacks since the withdrawal of US and foreign forces from the country after the Taliban seized power on August 20, 2021.
