Afghan schoolgirls cling to online education as only option available

Following the ban on female education in Afghanistan, the internet is now the only option available for girls to continue their studies.

Approximately 900 days have passed since 80% of girls in Afghanistan were deprived of attending school after completing primary education.

Reports from educational sources have revealed that around 3.7 million girls in the country still face restrictions in accessing secondary education.

The reports indicate that about 30% of girls have not enrolled in primary schools since the Taliban took power in 2021, leading to an unprecedented decline in the educational situation for girls in Afghanistan.

Today, the internet is the sole option for girls to pursue their education in Afghanistan, with many parents struggling to provide the necessary communication tools and technology to ensure the continuation of their daughters’ education.

Experts believe that, given the current circumstances, this option is the only way to safeguard girls’ right to education and provide a better future for them.

Having waited for years, families have realized that Taliban has no intention to reopen schools and universities, prompting them to consider leaving Afghanistan in search of educational institutions to continue their daughters’ schooling.
