Social activists criticize Beijing’s double-faced approach to dealing with ongoing conflicts

Social activists and bloggers from around the world criticized Beijing’s ethical double standards regarding conflicts and wars raging in the world. While China reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, it continues to practice the same repression against the minority Muslim Uighurs.

Following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s description of the Israeli war in Gaza as a “stain on civilization,” activists and bloggers emphasized that the suffering and repression faced by the Uighur Muslims is equally severe.

They stated that Beijing’s contradictory and double-faced approach to dealing with ongoing conflict events, including the war in Gaza, undermines its calls to stop this destructive war.

They further stated that Beijing must be transparent about the crimes of persecution and repression against the Muslim Uighur minority, who are facing genocide that should not be overlooked by the world.

The activists stressed that their demands do not mean they do not support calls to end the severe war on Palestinians; Muslims in Xinjiang have also been subjected to brutal repression for years, but Beijing has not ethically committed to calls to end this injustice and oppression.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated in a press conference held today, Thursday, that “the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is unacceptable and must be stopped.” He added that “there is no reason that justifies the continuation of the conflict.”
