In support of Mi’sbah Al-Hussein Foundation’s orphan project, new study recommends caring for orphans

A new academic study has recommended giving sufficient attention to orphans in the Holy city of Karbala and Iraq in general, in support of the Charter for the Protection of Iraqi Orphans project.

The study, conducted by Iraqi researcher Ahmed Jaleel Kazem, emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of orphans in Karbala province and understanding the extent of this phenomenon, which has led to an increase in terrorist incidents, diseases, and other challenges.

The researcher, in his study titled “Spatial Variation of Orphans in Karbala Province,” aimed to investigate the distribution of orphans in administrative units and identify the causes and effects of this phenomenon, as it has become a problem affecting the residents of the holy city.

He highlighted that orphanhood is one of the most significant phenomena with social and economic implications that impact all members of society, potentially leading to significant negative consequences due to its increasing prevalence.

The researcher noted that the number of orphans, whether at the national level or in Karbala province, is steadily rising, with variations in population numbers among administrative units due to increased terrorist activities, incidents, and diseases.

He also pointed out the diverse effects of orphanhood, including economic hardships such as poverty and deprivation, social consequences like social marginalization, and psychological impacts such as emotional distress, depression, internal conflicts, and jealousy.

Moreover, the study identified several ways to alleviate the suffering of orphans, including efforts to improve their economic and social conditions and mitigate the effects of orphanhood on the orphans and their families.

These recommendations align with the initiative presented by Misbah Al-Hussein Foundation for Relief and Development in Holy Karbala, which conducted a comprehensive study as part of its humanitarian project, the Charter for the Protection of Iraqi Orphans. This project has garnered significant attention and interest from the federal government.

The project aims to legislate a special law for protecting orphans throughout Iraq and establish a dedicated institution for their care, similar to the institutions for martyrs and political prisoners.
