US Senate Bill Aims to Prevent Forced Repatriation of Uyghurs to China

Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign has voiced strong support for the newly introduced Preventing the Forced Return of Uyghurs Act of 2025, Justice For All reported. This bipartisan Senate bill, introduced by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and John Cornyn (R-TX), aims to deny entry into the United States to government officials implicated in the forced repatriation of Uyghurs and other vulnerable individuals to China.

The proposed legislation seeks to prevent U.S. visas and immigration benefits from being granted to those deemed complicit in returning Uyghur refugees to Chinese authorities, who face accusations of genocide and crimes against humanity. The bill also acknowledges that other ethnic and religious groups fleeing China are exposed to similar threats.

Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All, stated that the bill draws a clear line, indicating that the United States will not tolerate complicity in China’s transnational repression. Arslan Hidayat, Team Lead for Save Uyghur, emphasized that the bill represents a crucial step in combating China’s global campaign of fear, sending a message that enabling genocide will incur consequences beyond China’s borders. The Save Uyghur Campaign is urging swift passage of the bill and encourages other democracies to adopt similar legislation, underscoring the protection of Uyghur refugees as both a fundamental human rights issue and a matter of international legal responsibility.
